At the Healthy City Design 2024 Conference in Liverpool, Healthy Cities colleagues Celia García and Ruth Gow led a workshop showcasing the economic benefits of prioritising health in urban planning. They presented the Healthy Cities Generator (€VALUE) tool, developed with EIT Urban Mobility.
The tool enables cities to forecast the financial impact of health-promoting infrastructure, demonstrating how urban planning improvements can reduce costs while enhancing public health. Attendees participated in a hands-on session using the tool to assess real-world urban planning actions.
Ruth and Celia presented a case study done, putting the tool to use, with the city of Bradford and were pleased to welcome Dr Saira Ali, Team Leader for Landscape, Design and Conservation at Bradford Council, to the session to share her experience working with the Healthy Cities Generator (€VALUE) tool.
The session was part of a packed agenda that included insights from experts such as Professor Matt Ashton of Liverpool City Council, who spoke on advancing health equity, and Dr. Nathalie Roebbel of WHO, addressing urban health strategies. Attendees engaged in a hands-on session, using the €VALUE tool to explore the cost-effectiveness of health-promoting infrastructure.
