The Euskal Hiria Congress

Last week, the Euskal Hiria Congress featured a standout presentation by Marta Rofin, who showcased groundbreaking research on urban determinants of health and their comprehensive impact on physical, mental, environmental, and social well-being. Her talk emphasised how urban environments directly influence community health and proposed innovative solutions to improve quality of life in cities.

During her presentation, she outlined the methodology developed by the Healthy Cities team to integrate scientific knowledge into urban planning. This approach enables the consideration of physical and public health aspects from the early stages of projects. She also shared practical examples where this methodology has already been successfully implemented, demonstrating its applicability and effectiveness.

Furthermore, Marta introduced the online tool designed to facilitate healthy urban planning. The Healthy Cities Generator tool allows urban planners to visualise the health impacts of projects, estimate potential savings in healthcare, and make more informed decisions toward sustainability and collective well-being.

The Euskal Hiria Congress continues to establish itself as a key platform for discussing and sharing advancements in sustainable urbanism, with contributions like Marta’s paving the way for a healthier future for our cities.
