Healthy Cities is proud to launch a new citizen engagement module for the Healthy Cities Generator: a dedicated tool designed to ensure community perspectives are fully integrated into urban planning. Join us on the 6th of June 2025 to explore how the module works, how it complements technical assessments, and how it empowers cities to:
- Compare expert data with lived experience
- Identify priorities that matter to real people
- Build healthier, more inclusive urban environments from the ground up
Strengthening expert analysis with local insights
While the Generator has always supported evidence-based planning through technical assessments, our real-world experience taught us that community insight is just as essential. In every project, we pair expert analysis with local workshops, asking similar questions to uncover where professional perspectives and lived experiences align, or diverge.
Until now, the Generator was designed primarily for planners and professionals. Our new module changes that. Built specifically for citizen use, it starts with a mobile-friendly, online questionnaire available in nine languages. The 20-question survey asks residents to rate their perception of local urban conditions and requests basic demographic information to help identify differing needs across population groups.
One platform for holistic, detailed evaluation
Once responses are gathered, they are integrated back into the Healthy Cities Generator platform and visualised alongside the technical analysis. The result is a precise, side-by-side comparison that highlights where priorities overlap and where they diverge, allowing cities to make more inclusive, well-informed decisions.
Decision-makers can filter results to create specific views (e.g., women over 60 in Sant Andreu), ensuring planning reflects the diversity of lived experience in each neighbourhood. And for communities just getting started, the citizen module can be used as a stand-alone engagement tool to inform early-stage healthy urban planning, even without a technical assessment.
Join us to connect people and planning
By bridging data and dialogue, the new module empowers healthier, more inclusive cities – designed with and for the people who live in them.
