Addressing rural depopulation and promoting healthy ageing requires, among other measures, the creation of environments that meet people’s needs, encourage healthy habits and ensure quality of life throughout all stages.
Last Thursday, we took part in the “Conference on innovation for longevity and healthy ageing” held in Tudela, a space for reflection and dialogue on the rural context of the Ribera de Navarra region. The event brought together diverse experiences and perspectives to explore the demographic challenge and the promotion of wellbeing in rural areas.
During the sessions, several key topics were discussed:
- New economic paradigms, aimed at rethinking current models in relation to population ageing and the sustainability of socio-labour systems.
- The role of technology and artificial intelligence as tools to support autonomy and independence among older adults.
- The importance of the rural context as an environment that sustains and facilitates life development through a strengthened social fabric.
We would like to thank the organisers for inviting us to share ideas and practical examples on how territorial planning and design can become tools for health, contributing to the creation of more sustainable, inclusive, and healthy environments for all generations.
These conferences were organised by Consorcio EDER, a public entity for the development of the Ribera de Navarra region, and Plataforma 50 – Hacking Longevity, which works on Silver Economy projects helping regions boost their development by focusing on longevity and active ageing.
