The guide “Carrers i salut. Guia per al disseny de carrers saludables” (Streets and Health: A Guide for Designing Healthy Streets) has been launched to support the design of healthy streets, developed by the Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona Provincial Council) in collaboration with Healthy Cities.
As cities continue to densify and evolve, the street remains the fundamental part of public space – not just as a corridor for transit, but a place for spending time and connecting with others. This new guide represents a call to action to transform these everyday spaces into environments that actively favour health, social connection and sustainability.
The guide provides a comprehensive vision of how we can rethink our streetscapes. It moves beyond traditional urban design metrics to integrate health criteria directly into the planning process. Authored by the Healthy Cities team, this publication is part of the Diputació de Barcelona’s growing toolkit on Urban environments & Health.
With this resource, planners across Barcelona province will be equipped to prioritise health in their work and understand how street design impacts physical and mental wellbeing.
